Helping Hands

Often a disaster occurs far away but its impact strikes us close to home.  Recently, we have all witnessed the series of hurricanes which struck the Texas Gulf and wreaked devastation on Puerto Rico and many Caribbean islands. This humanitarian tragedy impacted many of our teachers and students because of family members, relatives and friends in the region who suddenly had their lives up ended.  While some may have felt helpless witnessing this tragedy the teachers and students at The Academy of Aerospace and Engineering (AAE) were drawn to help. Towards that end we are announcing a special Hispanic Day of Celebration for Hurricane Relief on October 12 from 6 – 8 pm. The AAE campus will play host to a variety of fundraising activities to raise money for the victims of hurricanes in the Caribbean and the southern United States.

The evening will be a celebration of Hispanic Culture in all its forms, starting with a Potluck dinner in the cafeteria. Families are encouraged to bring their favorite Hispanic dish or desert to share family style. Also in the cafeteria students will be making paper flowers, holding a dominoes tournament and selling a variety of T-shirts and fashionwear to raise funds to aid the recovery effort.

Of course no evening of Hispanic Culture is complete without music, dancing and fútbol (soccer)! In the auditorium students will be dancing to the tunes of a dj who will transform the room into a tropical dance club. Be sure to wear your dancing shoes as you dance to the rhythm of “Despecito’ “. For those more athletically inclined a friendly game of fútbol  will be held in the gymnasium.

The entire AAE community is encouraged to come join us, and to contribute what you can toward this very noble and necessary relief effort. For more information please contact Ms. Antillana del Valle via ( ) or Ms. Marta Adán (  )
